Tina Avelar, MPT, OCS, FAAOMPTSan Carlos Clinic
Tina has been a licensed physical therapist since 2003. Born and raised in San Mateo, Tina completed her undergraduate and graduate education in the Bay Area. She received her B.A. in Integrative Biology from University of California at Berkeley in 1998. She attended Samuel Merritt College for her Master’s in Physical Therapy. Upon graduating from PT school, Tina moved to the central valley of California where she worked in an outpatient orthopedic clinic for a year and a half. Tina’s clinical interest in manual therapy brought her back to the Bay Area to complete the prestigious Kaiser Hayward Fellowship in Orthopedic Manual Therapy during 2004-2005. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapy. In June of 2007 she became a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. Currently, Tina serves as the spine specialist at Apex and Director of the San Carlos Clinic.
Growing up, Tina was a competitive dancer for 15 years and although she has retired from dancing, she enjoys other recreational activities such as: golf, water and snow skiing. In the last few years, Tina has become an avid triathlete and races for The Olympic Club in San Francisco in both local and national races. Her love for sport and physical fitness transfer into the PT clinic, where Tina enjoys rehabilitating sport-specific injuries.
